PT006 – Planar tension creep testing:

(Up to 12 hours)


A test specimen is loaded to a specified stress level. The imposed stress is maintained for up to 12 hours and the stress/strain response of the material is measured. The specimen is unloaded to zero stress at the end of the specified time duration. Strain is measured using a non-contact extensometer.

Temperature Options        

This test can generally be performed at any temperature between -80ºC and 250ºC.

  • CT: Cryogenic temperatures (-80ºC to 20ºC)

  • RT: Room temperature (~ 20ºC)

  • HT: High temperatures (20ºC to 250ºC)

Strain Rates

Strain rates up to ~ 1/s are possible, depending on specimen geometry.

Time, Engineering Strain, Engineering Stress, Load, Crosshead Displacement, Extensometer Measurement

Specimen Requirements

Specimen must have a width-to-height ratio of 10:1.

Note that we request extra specimens to ensure a sufficient supply of specimens for valid testing.
