PolyUMod and MCalibration Software

Veryst has developed reliable and comprehensive tools for solving difficult polymer design problems. The PolyUMod® Library is a library of advanced user-material models that plugs into an FEA solver and enables more accurate predictions than what is possible within the available material models. The PolyUMod Library also includes a set of pre-calibrated material models for specific materials. The MCalibration® software is a tool that can calibrate all available material models quickly and easily. 

Advanced Material Models for Finite Element Modeling of Engineering Polymers and Biomaterials

Veryst Engineering now offers the PolyUMod® Library of user-material models for finite element modeling of engineering polymers and biomaterials. Commercial finite element codes lack the material models needed to simulate accurately many types of polymers. Veryst Engineering has developed a library of general purpose material models that cover virtually all polymer systems, including thermoplastics, thermosets, elastomers, foams, filled plastics, and biomaterials. Specific models also have been developed for particular formulations such as fluoropolymers, PLA, and UHMWPE.

The PolyUMod library provides the FE user advanced material models as if they were built into the FE program. Engineers can perform very accurate FE simulations without becoming an expert in material model software development. A large part of the difficult development work has already been done! The PolyUMod library supports all polymeric materials, including:

Predicting failure and safety factors is an important part of many finite element studies. Each of the material models in the PolyUMod library can also be used to predict failure.


The PolyUMod Library also includes a set of pre-calibrated material models. The already calibrated material models are intended to be used as ‘generic’ models for specific polymers, instead of using, for example, the elastic modulus and Poisson’s ratio from a specification sheet. This means that the behavior of the library model will likely not be an exact match for the behavior of your material due to variability in additives and processing conditions. However, the models have been calibrated to extensive test data and should provide significantly more accurate results than a model based on manufacturer data sheets. The models are available in Abaqus, ANSYS Mechanical, LS-DYNA, COMSOL Multiphysics, and MSC.Marc.

Extracting material Model Parameters

The MCalibration® parameter extraction software makes it easy to calibrate any PolyUMod, Abaqus, ANSYS, LS-DYNA, or MSC.Marc material model, and a limited set of COMSOL material models, based on available experimental data. The calibration software allows the user to analyze a set of experimental data files in order to determine the optimal model parameters. For more information about MCalibration, click here.
