Veryst Engineering published an article in the September 2013 issue of NASA Software Tech Briefs titled "Conjugate Thermal Analysis of a Generic LED Light Bulb." The article illustrates how a coupled thermal CFD (computational fluid dynamics) analysis is used to predict the temperature variation and airflow around an LED bulb. Thermal management is a challenge in the design of compact LEDs since the higher power density results in high temperatures that negate the other benefits of LEDs. This multiphysics modeling approach is essential for exploring a wide range of design configurations accurately and efficiently. To read the article, click here.
