“High Strain Rate Testing and Modeling of Thermoplastics” was the subject of Dr. Sean Teller’s presentation at the NAFEMS World Congress 2019, held in Québec City, Québec, Canada, June 17-20, 2019.  Polymers are often used as a protective or energy-absorbing material in impact applications, in such varied industries as athletic equipment, consumer electronics, wearable devices, automotive structures, and medical devices.  Dr. Teller discussed how capturing the behavior of these materials accurately is challenging due to their low stiffness and wave speed and he demonstrated, using a case study on a high density polyethylene (HDPE) material, specialized test techniques Veryst has developed to measure material response for impact applications and design.  He also demonstrated advanced nonlinear optimization techniques to select and calibrate constitutive models to experimental data.  Learn more about this event.
