Compression creep testing (up to 12 hours)
A uniaxial compression specimen is loaded to a specified stress level. The imposed stress is maintained for up to 12 hours and the stress/strain response of the material is measured. The specimen is unloaded to zero stress at the end of the specified time duration. Strain is determined by measuring the local platen displacement using a clip-on extensometer or Digital Image Correlation (DIC).
This test can generally be performed at any temperature between -80ºC and 280ºC.
- CT: Cryogenic temperatures (-80ºC to 20ºC)
- RT: Room temperature (~ 20ºC)
- HT: High temperatures (20ºC to 280ºC)
Note: The use of the temperature chamber for high and low temperature tests limits the crosshead displacement for these tests. Some combinations of material, temperature, and specimen geometries may not be possible to complete to failure.
Strain rates up to ~ 1/s are possible, depending on specimen geometry.
ASTM D575, ASTM D695, ISO 604
Time, Engineering Strain, Engineering Stress
Cylinders, prisms, or tubes with dimensions as specified in ASTM D575, ASTM D695, and ISO 604 are preferred. Comparable geometries are also possible.
Note that we request extra specimens to ensure a sufficient supply of specimens for valid testing.
